I don't know, I actually like the movie. I didn't like how Housekeeping was such a morbid book. The director made it so I can enjoy it. The funny and light moments made me smile; the movie made me realize that there were some good moments in the book.

First Impression
The director did a good job picking out the actress for Ruth and Lucille; he also does an exceptional job with the two step aunts. I love how the aunts just finish each other's sentence or idea. I had a different perception of Sylvie though. I mean sure she's odd in the movie, but I thought she was more dark? The movie makes her more humorous. The thing that jumps out to me the most for me is the atmosphere and setting. In the novel, the atmosphere and the setting was grim; Fingerbone and the lake was a rather depressing place to be. The movie, however, makes the atmosphere light, with light moments.
