After reading Raymond Carver’s “Principles of a story”, I would agree with his statement that clear and specific language is what authors use to get their ideas brought to life. An author will “bring his intelligence and literary skill to bear…his sense of proportion and sense of the fitness things…through the use of clear and specific language.” Not only will that being accurate and precise “bring to life the details that will light up the story for the reader.”
In my opinion, concise writing is the first step into getting your point across. If you’re specific in your writing readers will know what you are talking about. Being concise will effectively make you a better writer.
Also, if a writer is succinct he will more than likely be organize. Being organized will let one be able to make their ideas flow easier. Easier flow will make it so that one’s detail is more concrete. This then cause one’s writing style to be stronger. Consequently, readers are able to understand what the meaning the writer is trying to convey. As you can see, concise writing is the first step to good writing. Once you get that down, you are more likely to be able to convey your message easier to readers.
