Bloggity blog

Bloggity, bloggity, blog, blogs are a double edge sword when it comes to academic writing (sorry Sam if you're reading this I stole your title lol). Blogs are kind of like vomit drafts: you spill everything out. But the good thing about blogs is that you don’t have to edit it. Blogs help you become more creative since you just write. You write whatever you want, how you feel, or what you like. Blogs can help your academic writing by opening up your mind, since blogs are like free speech. Although this is true, blogs can hinder your writing too. For instance, blogs can hurt your grammar and spelling. In blogs people are more likely to throw away their grammar and spelling for a more “open speech.” They will replace words with acronyms and other internet lingos, and since you don’t edit most of the time in blogs you are prone to make grammatical mistakes.

Blogs are different from academic writing though. For instance, blogs are more relaxed. It is easier to see someone’s voice when it comes to blogging. The reason why is that they are expressing their opinion about something. Academic writing however, is a bit more difficult to identify their voice. The reason being is that you’re not sure if this is their true opinion on the subject. Academic writing you can sense the person’s style more than their voice. So in terms of the question what comes first the style or the voice? I guess it depends on how you write/what topic you’re writing on. The audience is a bit different too. In blogs everyone, I mean EVERYONE is able to look at your blog. Teenagers to employees can see what you write. In an academic paper the audience is mostly teachers or professional people.

In my opinion, I think this blog project did help my writing style. The blog has made me more open minded, since I am able to write whatever I in some posts. I can actually express my opinion. Not only that, this blog spot was a place to experiment my writing. In each post I tried to do something that I wouldn’t do ordinarily. Trying these styles helped me see which fits me more.
